Ron McCahill (1962) died in June, 2025, aged 78. Born with water on the brain, Ron suffered from cerebral palsy, but survived for decades longer than was expected, and lived an amazing life. Awarded the Queens Award for Bravery at the age of 12 – he rescued a drowning child from a reservoir in Bollington – he worked as a chartered accountant, including at one time for the Duke of Westminster. He was also a well-known football referee, officiating in over 4000 games, including once sending off the great Pele when he was playing for New York Cosmos!
