Rob Smith

Commander Rob SMITH (1960) has died ,aged 83. After King’s he graduated from Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, and then chose to join the Submarine Service. After incredible experiences on many vessels, including on the HMS Conqueror that later sank the General Belgrano during the Falklands War, he rose through the ranks to eventually command HMS Sceptre, which was the 10th nuclear fleet sub to enter service with the Royal Navy. Much of his time on Sceptre was spent in the freezing Barents Sea to the north of Norway, monitoring Soviet subs as they left their base in Murmansk! Later, he held several senior positions in the Navy and the Ministry of Defence, before retiring to a village in Kent.
